Vape cartridges, also known as vape pens or oil cartridges, are a popular method for consuming cannabis concentrates. A vape cartridge is a glass tank, typically holding between 0.5 to 1.0 mL of cannabis oil, with a mouthpiece that is attached to a battery. The battery heats up the cannabis oil to a specific temperature, typically between 200 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, creating an inhalable vapor without combustion.
Vape cartridges come pre-filled so they can be immediately used and are disposable after the oil has been consumed. They are compact, discreet and do not require any cannabis grinding or preparation like a dab rig. However, vape cartridges tend to be more expensive than other concentrate methods given their convenience and ease of use. The effects from vape cartridges also tend to be more mild than dabbing since they heat cannabis oil at a lower temperature.
There are two main types of vape cartridges: distillate cartridges and full-spectrum cartridges. Distillate cartridges contain cannabis oil that has been refined to only contain THC and have a very high THC potency, often 95% or higher. This results in a heady, uplifting high with little body effect. Full-spectrum cartridges contain cannabis oil with the full spectrum of cannabinoids and terpenes, including THC, CBD and strain-specific terpenes. This provides more of the natural cannabis flavor and experience, with balanced effects on both the mind and body.
To use a vape cartridge, attach it to a vape pen battery or vape mod and inhale from the mouthpiece. Vape cartridges heat cannabis oil at a lower temperature than dabbing, producing lighter vapor that may be more pleasant and smooth for some users. The effects from vape cartridges tend to be uplifting and heady, though full-spectrum cartridges may also provide body effects. Vape cartridges are a popular choice for novice consumers and those looking for a discreet method of consuming cannabis.
